What I Want You to Know:
I have friends who are very close to me that feel they're resistant to everything out there, including HIV/AIDS, and I want them to realize that, no matter what, every person is at risk, and every person is a "candidate" for HIV/AIDS.
How HIV/AIDS has affected my life:
HIV/AIDS affects my life daily. I have several friends that are infected with HIV that I interact with on a regular basis. One in particular, I have known since I was young. He's a family friend, and at first, I was honestly scared, but my mother explained to me that he was not any different, and that being in our house won't hurt me or anyone else. I came to appreciate him more than anyone else I know, and I value his friendship and experiences today.
How I contribute to the fight against HIV:
First and foremost, I try to talk to my friends and family as much as possible about HIV. I think it's important to keep communication alive. People are often too scared to talk about HIV/AIDS. I am active on World AIDS Day in the community and try to participate when possible.
Have I ever been tested for HIV?
I get tested during my yearly physicals and then every 6 months, depending on my sexual activity.
