What I Want You to Know:
We have come a long way since the early 1980s, but there is still much more to be done so that we can reduce the stigma surrounding HIV.

Why I think it's important to challenge HIV/AIDS stereotypes:
It's unfortunate that despite the wealth of information available regarding HIV/AIDS, there are still so many individuals and communities that have a limited understanding of who can be HIV positive and what we can all do to protect ourselves.

How HIV/AIDS has affected my life:
I am fascinated by the fact that, although we know exactly how HIV can be transmitted, there are still huge numbers of newly infected people every year. I have had two internships in which all of my clients were HIV positive, and their stories of hope, survival, and at times, defeat, have been a continuous source of inspiration.

How I contribute to the fight against HIV:
I am a social work intern on Bellevue Hospital's Inpatient Virology Team, where I provide support, counseling and linkage to community resources for individuals living with HIV.

Why I get tested:
I think it's important that everyone gets tested, and on a regular basis. It's not only important to stay safe and know my status, but it's also my responsibility as a sexually active individual to protect anyone I may have sexual contact with in the future.
