What I Want You to Know:
I only know one person that is HIV positive. She is a beautiful young lady who, instead of being angry and/or depressed, has turned her diagnosis into being an advocate.

Why I think it's important to challenge HIV/AIDS stereotypes:
Many people are still afraid and avoid talking about HIV/AIDS. Because one of the main ways of contracting and/or transmitting HIV/AIDS is through sex, we have to be willing to have open communication.

How HIV/AIDS has affected my life:
I have tried to encourage myself and others to get tested, get educated, and know their status. It encourages me to be honest and hope that others too will be honest about their status.

How I contribute to the fight against HIV:
While in graduate school, a colleague and I created an organization called Students Against AIDS and the abolition on National Denial (STAAND). We challenged our classmates and all of Howard University to "A Semester of Abstinence and Advocacy."

Have I ever been tested for HIV?
Yes; I have not always used protection during sexual activity. Even when I am not sexually active or even when protection was used, I believe it is important for me to walk the talk that I talk. I want to be able to help others understand why knowing your status is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your partner(s).
